Cleanup is not for sale through retail facilities. It is distributed as
shareware on an "I trust you" basis and is not in any form to be considered
public domain or free. Considerable effort went into creating the program and
I'm retaining full protection under the copyright laws. However, I also want
you to be able to share my games with your friends. So, please feel free to
hand on as many copies as you would like, as long as you include the original
BAT file and all of the document files.
There are no set prices for my games. I leave their value up to you. If you
are going to use CleanUp for your personal enjoyment, whether you got it from
a software distributor or a friend, please mail a check to me at the above
address. Your donation towards each programs creation is appreciated. In
exchange, I'll add your name to the list of those eligible for updates,
contests, and additional games. For example, I hope soon to have a joystick
added to many of them. I'd also like your comments and suggestions. If you
wish, you may use the registration and order form by typing PRINT SHAREME.REG
at the DOS prompt.
Like all of my games, CleanUp is designed for full color with high resolution
EGA graphics and should run on most PC's and work alikes. If you have any
problems, let me know. There is a provision for disabling the game sounds if
you prefer the game to play quietly.
CleanUp is an extensively reworked version of a program originally released
for the TRS-80 Model I. It looks like the game board uses standard ASCII
characters, but they are actually graphically redimensioned so the game board
is scaled correctly. The object is to "clean up" all of the gold stars "*"
without bumping into a barrier or your own trail. Use the cursor keys to
guide the blinking square through as many stars as you can. It takes some
strategy to avoid blocking your path. That includes reversing direction. The
corner keys on the number pad will let you go diagonally. You can speed up
the game by pressing the <TAB> key. Press the <SHIFT><TAB> combination to
slow things down.
Your score is a combination of how many stars you get, how long your path is,
and how fast you were traveling. The game starts with a display of the score-
board and options to change the difficulty (number of stars and barriers) and
the speed. You can also have CleanUp keep track of the time so you can take
turns with a friend. The game controls timing independent of computer speed.
There's a game score file you may use to keep track of your progress. Some of
my scores are currently in the file. If you wish, you can kill or rename the
file and the program will start a new one. If you clean up a difficulty of
100 at a speed of 50 or better, send me a printed copy of "CLNFILE.DAT". I'll
add you to the list of top players and send you a free disk of my latest games.
You may copy the CleanUp files into any directory on hard disk or another
floppy. The only real requirement is that all of the files associated with
the game, except for its BAT file, must be in the same directory. You may
activate the program directly, with a BAT file, or from ActMenu. If you put
CleanUp on your hard disk, you may have to adapt the BAT file for your system.
Good luck, and let me know if you enjoy CleanUp,
Chris
P.S. You can disable this message by removing the 'TYPE' and 'PAUSE' entries
from your personalized BAT file. Please retain the original BAT file if you
are going to pass CleanUp along.
